we're back with the live pictures from northern italy. genoa, italy where right there on the ground about 1,000 searchers are at the scene of the deadly bridge collapse. they don't expect to find anymore survivors. but the death toll of 39 is still likely to rise.

more than three dozen vehicles plunged 150 feet to the ground. anger is growing with prosecutors looking into the bridge's design and maintenance. the highway is operated by a private company. a shark attack victim is recovering. >> he was swimming close to an area where two great whites were spotted last week. drone video shows a shark in the water off the beach. more than a dozen people ran to the man's aid, including two recent nursing school graduates. here is linsey davis. >> reporter: paramedics airlifting this man after a suspected shark attack off cape cod, massachusetts. the call came in around 4:30. the 61-year-old man was alert and talking but suffered

puncture wounds to his torso and leg. several shark sightings have been reported in recent days, at least two great whites spotted a hundred yards off the shore. this was the scene off of cape cod just last week when a great white jumped out of the water, lunging at this scientist. and last month, two children playing in the waters off fire island, new york were both bitten, both suffering non-life-threatening injuries. >> thanks to linsey davis there. we have video of another score from massachusetts. >> they were dancing footloose in boston when this happened. they went for the dip. oh, and this happened. this happened in boston harbor. a young woman walking nearby caught the cute couple dancing and then their epic fall. >> wow. >> they just plunged. >> so the band paused for a

good morning, good morning, i'm kendis gibson. >> and i'm maggie rulli in for diane macedo. the case of the missing denver area mother and her daughters may have been solved. reports say the husband has confessed to killing them, hours after appearing on tv saying he wanted them back. police in new haven, connecticut are warning that a bad batch of synthetic marijuana has caused more than 70 overdoses, all in less than a 24-hour period. and they fear more people could o.d. so far they've arrested one man they believe is connected to ions should be getting back to normal at reagan national airport overnight, a power outage plunged the airport in darkness. the cause is under investigation.

christopher watts telling investigators he would lead them to the bodies of his wife, 34-year-old shannan watts and their daughters. >> we are working around the clock on this case. >> reporter: in a tv interview, watts admitted that before the disappearance, he and shaanan exchanged heated words. >> we had an emotional conversation. >> reporter: he said he last saw his family around 5:00 a.m. monday when he left their colorado home for work. >> just come back. if somebody has her, just please bring her back. >> reporter: her friend, nicole, says she got worried when shaanan, who is also 15 weeks pregnant missed a doctor's appointment and woul texts. >> i just can't understand. if you're hearing this or you're out there, please, please let somebody know you're okay. >> reporter: shaanan's friends tell us her phone and keys were found here at the home.

calling them divisive and treasonous. >> mr. brennan's conduct is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation's most closely-held secrets. >> the white house went on to list nine others who can lose their security clearances, including james clapper, michael hayden and former fbi director james comey. democrats are calling it an enemies list like one found in a dictatorship. >> white house press secretary, sarah sanders, offered an apology for falsely claiming that president trump had created three times as many jobs for african-americans than president obama. sanders told reporters this week, earlier in the week, that obama had just created just under 200,000 jobs for black workers during his eight years in office, but labor statistics

chairman paul manafort. prosecutors argued that the case is about manafort's lies. but the defense says the government failed to prove his guilt. here's abc's kenneth moton. >> reporter: paul manafort's fate now rests in the hands of a jury. >> mr. manafort was very happy today to have his legal team address the jury. >> reporter: defense attorneys for the former trump campaign chairman walked out of court saying prosecutors did not meet their burden of proof. >> we explained that the government has not met their burden of proof. >> reporter: special counsel mueller's team is accusing manafort of hiding millions of dollars from the irs. prosecutors painted him as a canny manipulator. manafort's lawyers blaming his

long-time business partner rick gates, who got a plea deal, that he helped hide millions in offshore accounts. manafort's attorney painted gates as the real crook, adding this is someone manafort trusted, what a big mistake that was. manafort's team made a strategic move by not putting him on the stand or calling a witness. >> we live in the united states of america. and you're presumed innocent until proven guilty. >> reporter: these crimes happened before manafort took the reins of the trump campaign. jury deliberations are expected to start later this morning. >> kenneth, thank you. women who have high levels of the pesticide ddt in their blood during pregnancy are more likely to give birth to children who develop autism. that's according to researchers in finland.

nearly 800 children were diagnosed with autism. most of the moms had a higher pesticide level in their blood. they stress that their findings doesn't conclude that autism is caused by ddt and more study is needed. it was banned in 1972 but still in use in other countries. new concern about a jeep built for kids that suddenly bursts into flames. the makers say it's never happened before and they're looking into the cause. investigators say the battery is not likely to blame. it has been removed from the power wheels website. and firefighters helped this little guy get out of a tight spot. the little guy's arm was stuck in the thomas the engine toy. it took them 20 minutes to get his arm out of the smokestack. >> he was right back out there playing as soon as he escaped. >> as a kid would be.

we're now ge we're now getting our first look at that deadly bridge collapse at florida university. time lapse images show four workers on the walkway just moments before it came down. six people were killed in this collapse. investigators say the workers were tightening rods in a concrete support and they think their actions may have caused the bridge to come down. a group of angry parents forced the closure of a school. >> the issue, a transgender girl using the bathroom.

brad mielke spoke with her mother.die is in seventh grade. she's a transgender girl. generally she uses the staff bathroom, but she couldn't find it and she used the girl's room instead. parents started complaining on private facebook group. her mom told me one morning she was confronted by angry parents. another mom defended her and informed her what had been happening online. >> she was so sorry about all these facebook posts and couldn't believe this was happening, and i was like what facebook posts. so she proceeded to show me several screen shots, ones about the husband and wife's son needed to beat my daughter's a-word until she stopped wanting to come to school. there was one if he wants to be a woman so bad, a good, sharp knife should do the trick. >> really? >> protests outside the school, and police were worried they might become violent. her mom says she hasn't had many

>> woo! >> -- a 16-year-old girl from florida who of course is hanging ten in a very big way. >> she's the youngest athlete, male or female, to ever qualify for the world championship tour. zachary kiesch caught up with her. >> reporter: it's just after dawn, and 16-year-old caroline marx is getting in her zone. this rookie is about to compete against some of the most decorated surfers in the world. on land, she stands only 5'5", but in the water, she's a giant. >> caroline marx, a seasoned, crusty veteran at the age of 16. >> i'm grateful for the opportunity, and it's really fun. >> reporter: on some levels, she's just getting started. this is her a couple years ago. these days, she drips confidence and moves with style, a ride and rise that's taken her as high as number three in the world.

>> it definitely happened really quick, that's for sure. it definitely went super fast. now i'm on the world tour. >> reporter: caroline is the youngest surfer ever to qualify for the world championships tour, we're talking about the super bowl of surfing. born and raised in florida, she's the third of six children. her brother luke marx is a pro surfer, too. she says watching her big brother ride and compete back in the day planted the seeds for surfing. marx was dominating. >> the rookie sensation out of florida. big blast there for caroline marx. >> reporter: she developed a habit of winning. >> we moved all the way to california for my surfing, that's insane. i don't know if they really want to be out here. >> reporter: caroline competes with the adults, but she's still technically in high school.

this morning on "world news this morning on "world news now," blackout at one of the nation's busiest airports. >> reagan national near d.c. crippled by a power outage, stranding passengers. we're now learning what caused it. a husband and father who went on tv to plead for the return of his missing wife and daughter has now reportedly confessed to killing them. the president is facing backlash from both parties after pulling the top security clearance of former cia chief john brennan. the rare move is being seen by some as a punishment. brennan is a frequent critic of the president. the white house says more officials could be next. and there is a new simba roaring as the lion king. we'll learn his secret to ruling the jungle on this thursday,

portland, oregon was pushing back from a gate when the left wing hit the wing of an empty jet parked nearby. no one was injured. and the passengers eventually left on a different plane. a mess all across the country. >> crews rushed to raleigh-durham. a strange odor apparently sickened passengers. one crew member and two passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment. a new aircraft picked up the rest of the passengers and went on to philadelphia. breaking overnight, the disappearance of a pregnant woman and her two daughters may have been solved. the husband has confessed to killing them. they were reported missing from frederick, colorado on monday. the fbi and state investigators were helping look for them. chris watts went on tv yesterday to plead for their return and admit that he had a disagreement

jonathan karl has more. >> reporter: president trump revoked the security clearance of john brennan, denying him access to classified information. in a statement read by press secretary sarah sanders, the president invoked brennan's, quote, wild outbursts on the internet and erratic conduct. >> mr. brennan's lying and erratic conduct is wholly inconsistent with access to the nation's most closely-held secrets. >> reporter: in a tv appearance, brennan lashed out at the president. >> he is, i think, the most divisive president we've ever had in the oval office. he is feeding and fueling hatred and animosity and misunderstandings among americans. >> reporter: brennan is a life-long intelligence official who's served under democratic and republican presidents. since he left government he's become a staunch trump critic.

even saying trump gave putin an extremely strong and powerful denial of meddling in the 2016 election. >> it is a betrayal of the nation. he is giving aid and comfort to the enemy, and it needs to stop. >> reporter: brennan tweeted his response to the president's action, calling it part of a broader effort by mr. trump to suppress freedom of speech and punish critics, adding, it should gravely worry all americans. and it's not just brennan in the president's cross hairs. sanders read a list of others. >> james clapper, james comey, michael hayden, sally yates. susan rice, andrew mccabe, peter strzok, lisa page and bruce ohr. >> reporter: it seems everybody you mentioned has been a political critic. is he going after his politil opponents with this? >> no, if there were others that

weren't that we deemed necessary we'd take a look and review those as well. >> reporter: while there's no doubt that the president has the power to revoke security clearances, we can find no example of a president personally intervening to take away someone's security clearance, let alone someone who has not been accused of breaking the law. brennan says this will have a chilling effect on officials who may want to question this president or any other president. jonathan karl, abc news, the white house. >> many people are questioning the timing here as perhaps a move to distract from the fallout over the tell-all book by omarosa. omarosa was the highest-ranking white house staffer who was black and her media blitz has drawn attention to the lack of diversity among senior aides. the press secretary was asked about the number of blacks employed in the white house. >> i'm not going to go through and do a count. the same way i'm not going to go
